Step into my world—the world of publishing! What is it like to be an author? Is it hard to get a book published?
What steps need to be taken? What about revisions? And rejections? And agents? And publishers? And why would
anyone quit an electrical engineering job to write full-time?
It’s a scary world out there, but, in this interactive PowerPoint presentation, I’ll debunk all the horror stories
(OK, most of them), talk about what I do with my days, and give a great overview of the publishing world.
I’ll talk about my path to publication, where I get my ideas, and what aspiring authors can expect.
Set goals and learn to manage time! It’s never too early to introduce goal setting and time management.
The life of a full-time published author and mother can be challenging. Balancing all sorts of different tasks from
marketing to writing to packing lunches requires knowing what needs to be done, deciding what is most important,
and making a plan to achieve it.
In this interactive PowerPoint presentation, I’ll help kids understand what goals are, how they can use them to
plan their futures, and what steps they should take to get moving on accomplishing anything they want in their lifetimes!
What are the rules for Fantasy? How about for Science-Fiction? What really are the differences between the two?
What needs to be considered when writing in these genres? How do worlds get created?
In this humorous, interactive PowerPoint presentation, kids will be introduced to the world of writing science-fiction
and fantasy. They will learn how key writing elements such as plot, character development, and setting are
intensified with the addition of fantastical elements. They’ll learn about hooking the reader from the start and
filling in details later as needed. And we’ll talk about some of the more current, popular science-fiction and fantasy titles of our time.
What is the history on monsters on Earth? How do monsters and mythology fit together? What are the types of monsters?
Learn what it takes to create your own monster. And now that you have a monster, let’s put him in an adventure!
In this fun, interactive presentation, I’ll introduce the worlds of mythology and monsters to younger students
using familiar references and interactive activities. We’ll work together to create the building blocks for monsters and
using writing elements, create a story of our own!
What is mythology? What are some of the various mythologies around the Earth? How do these fit together?
How could we create myths of our own? Kids have a fascination with mythology, and learning some of the
deeper roots in myth in the world around us will fuel their creativity forever. Not to mention give them wonderful
ideas for all sorts of stories.
In this information packed, interactive PowerPoint presentation, I’ll explore mythologies around the world and
talk about similarities, differences, and how they impact our world today. Mythology surrounds us, from plants we
grow to books we read. Using writing elements such as character development and plot, we’ll work together to
create our own myths!
I would love the opportunity to have lunch with a group of students! We can talk about writing, what we’re currently reading, and what drives our desires to put word after word down on paper.
* Don’t see exactly what you want above? Curious if something can be customized for a specific grade level or group interest? I’d love to work with you on customizing a presentation for your group. Please contact me to discuss.
I would love to talk to your group about more detailed aspects of writing. Steps to plotting a novel, how to breath life into a character, and what the Hero’s Journey really is are just a few of the topics I would be happy to teach. Please contact me for how I can customize a workshop to fit your needs.
I’d love the opportunity to come talk to your group about Goals and Time Management. It’s never too late to start. I’ll introduce the tools needed to get your group excited about setting goals and designing their own futures, and thus increasing productivity. After all, each of us is responsible for our future, and don’t we want it to be the best possible?
